Over the last year Scene Consulting have been working with a landowner in the Scottish Highlands, aiming to assess the viability of a small scale hydro scheme on the Moidart Peninsula.

As of December 2014, we can happily announce that the project has received official Feed-in-Tariff pre-accreditation and construction can begin in 2015.

The project consists of a 75kW hydro-power installation on a water course on the Moidart Peninsula, 41km West of Fort William. The scheme will generate electricity year round, exporting electricity to the national grid – providing both local income and helping to take Scotland a step closer to its 2020 renewables targets.

Scene played a pivotal role throughout the project’s development, including initial feasibility assessments, project design and obtaining planning permission.  In close consultation with organisations such as SEPA and The Highland Council, the project was designed to have minimal local impacts whilst maintaining the highest yield and cost effectiveness possible.

We are excited to see another renewable energy project go into construction and look forward to many more successes in 2015.
