In 2022/23 Scene conducted an audit of Carluke's carbon emissions, which informed the production of a community action plan and final Net Zero Strategy report.

Auditing the town's carbon emissions involved careful methodological rigour, with a whole town carbon emissions model built covering all emissions sectors: Stationary energy, Transportation, Waste and LULUCF. The analysis provided by Scene enabled the community to understand their specific carbon footprint, with granularity in specific town locations, sub-sectors and categories. Producing the community net zero strategy required in-depth engagement with Carluke residents. Scene presented the results of the carbon audit to the community and conducted workshops on reducing the carbon footprint. These workshops had high participation levels, resulting in a co-developed net zero action plan which detailed the community priorities in the short-, medium- and long-term, and provided practical support for enaction such as through case studies and specific funding information.
