Title: The Community Renewables Economy
Date: 2012 - 2013
Commissioned by the independent think-tank ResPublica, this research aimed to identify approaches to developing the community renewable sector, such as improved incentives for joint ownership projects, better networking facilitation between communities, enhanced local authority engagement and fast-track schemes for pilot projects. The report provides an overview of the community renewables economy, including analysis of current ownership models, technology types and capacities, investment sources and venture vehicles and projections of future trends. The project formed part of ResPublica’s “New Economies, Innovative Markets” work stream - encouraging the local energy market and engaging policymakers in its development.
The report received significant attention and press coverage and is now a widely cited work on the potential of community owned renewable energy.
