The end, for now - Energy Archipelago

Started in Scotland way back in 2012 – with support from The University of Edinburgh among others – Energy Archipelago begun as an ambitious attempt to plug the data gap in community energy. Having attempted to create a global partnership around the platform – to make the community energy movement more visible – we have ultimately decided that the project is too big for a small organisation like ours. It is with sadness that we will be retiring the platform very soon.

The development of this innovative heat network will be the first step towards the island’s energy transition from imported, fossil fuel energy sources, to local renewable energy generation, storage and use.

Just a few Thieving Issues

Solar streetlights are proving to be very popular local infrastructure investments in rural Odisha at the moment. Universally appreciated, easy to procure and install, relatively cheap and great for scoring political points with - solar streetlights are popping up in villages throughout the Indian state in which we set up a social enterprise, Urjaa Samadhan. Our team recently installed around 70 solar streetlights in a clutch of villages in the north-eastern district of Odisha called Mayurbhanj.

Community Energy in a Post-Subsidy World - Event Digest

Leapfrog's most recent seminar explored lessons that UK Community Energy can take from other jurisdictions where there has been a withdrawal of government support or never was any support in the first place.

The event was kindly hosted by Simmons & Simmons and was supported by Scene and we had four speakers who informed, challenged and explored some of the possibilities from beyond the UK with us:
